Who are we?

     The Brooklyn Free Clinic is an independent, not-for-profit organization of volunteers affiliated with the SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
     We provide full and free primary care medical services for the uninsured, adult population of Bedford-Stuyvesant and the surrounding communities.
     Our volunteers include students, physicians, and other health care professionals.

Due to an overwhelming demand and in an effort to maintain quality continuity of care we are temporarily not accepting any new patients until further notice. If you are an existing patient, this does not apply to you, and you may continue to make appointments as needed. Please check back with us for the most up to date information.

Free Metabolic Syndrome Screening

The Brooklyn Free Clinic encourages one and all to come out to the Metabolic Syndrome screening booth at the South Street Seaport during the National Alliance on Mental Illness annual walk and wellness fair on Saturday, May 9th 2009. BFC clinic members will be there to check blood pressure, weight, and glucose levels. If you or someone you know who could be at risk you may all want to stop by and get checked out starting at 9am. We are accepting new patients; please call for an appointment. The BFC sees only adults over 18 who do not have health insurance. See services for more info.

Official Mission Statement of the Brooklyn Free Clinic:

"By focusing the combined talents and energy of students of the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and of the College of Health Related Professions we will work to improve access to comprehensive health services for those in greatest need. The Brooklyn Free Clinic will strive to augment existing health programs by expanding coverage for the uninsured and networking with other institutions to achieve a more effective health care delivery system. In addition, we will identify issues of direct concern to our target population and work to address them. As the only medical school in the borough of Brooklyn we feel it is our duty to reach out to our neighbors and help ensure equitable and just distribution of vital health and preventive services, including health education and literacy."
